Home: ISAIAH 53 in new translation and annotations by Hermann Hain

Welcome to Isaiah 53. The most important text for healing. I love him more than any other in the bible. For many years I have studied Isaiah 53 in German and Original languages. The result is a new translation with annotations - first the appearance was in German - especially for people who are interesting to hear about new insights but are not able to read in Hebrew or Greek. Annotations are subdivide in Isaiah 52,13-15 and 53,1-5 and 53,6-12.

Isaiah 53 is in Hebrew and the annotations to Isaiah 53 are results of studies of the Hebrew Text. But the Servant of the LORD is Jesus. Isaiah 53 describes the cross. This result remains to be the only explanation with persuasive power. JESUS, SERVANT OF JHWH will explain it.

By citations of the Bible will be often used: The Holy Bible: New International Version 1984. Grand Rapids: Zondervan. Always the Hebrew or Greek text will be compared, but deviations will be not always marked. Abbreviation: NIV. Sometimes I compare with the King James Version (Abbreviation KJV). Deviations from these English Translations usually will be marked. If these translations do not take my pleasure, I will make translations by myself.

In the annotations to single verses there is always the same procedure: My own translation of Isaiah 53 is marked by "HH" and will be the first. After that follows NIV, then KJV, then explanations and comparing of the 3 translations. To every verse this will be the same action. By individual Scripture passages following these verses I feel free to choose the translation I prefer. NIV will be my first orientation.

LXX is the usual abbreviation for the Septuagint, the Greek translation of the Jewish Scriptures, the Hebrew Old Testament. In Isaiah 53 the abbreviation is used. This translation is very important, because it is the most ancient translation and was more frequently used by the writer of the New Testament than the Hebrew text, because the NT is also written in Greek language.

JHWH is the proper name of God in the Tanach, the Jewish Hebrew bible. The holy Tetragrammaton is in English bibles often rendered by LORD. The real pronunciation may be Jahweh.

(My puzzling experience using Mozilla "Firefox" as browser is past: the link http://isaiah53.jimdo.com will no more send to my German website http://www.jesaja53.com as it has done before. It is no more necessary to change browser or to type the link directly into the browser address bar. After half a year this difficulty seems past. It is very curious but the same link prepared by Internet Explorer is successful with Firefox!)
